First Wheels

After years of waiting, I've finally got my first set of wheels. It was a lot of work, and I had to get some help from Dad, but the bike is ready to show. And, a show-bike it is:

Yeah!   Chopped!

And, believe me, it took a lot of chopping, seeing as how my legs aren't that long yet.

Here's a picture of the donor bike, off UsedVictoria courtesy of Morgan:

Way too tall for me, so it get the treatment

Cranks removed, don't need those,
and we start hacking...

and bending...

and welding, and grinding.  Dad had to do the welding and, well, he's not that good at it.  Good thing he has grinders to clean up the mess.

Next up is a custom set of bars...  no ape-hangers for this cat.  A nice set of straight bars are much better.

Chop the mounting post off the old set of bars, extend it with a bit of welding, and then clean up the mess with the lathe.

More welding, and a little sanding and paint...

And we get this:

The old crank holes look ugly, so it's back to the lathe to make some plugs that match the ones Dad put in the handlebar ends:

Add a few farkles for fun...

And we get the result for final inspection...
